Den Long - a Vietnamese Lantern

Image
Have you ever been to Berlin for the Whit long weekend? You could easily end up around the Carnival of the World Cultures. Different kind of music and food and parades all around. A feast of colors, of people, of happiness. This year it was the first time I saw it with Zentangle eyes. I see patterns everywhere, On the last day I was checking the stands, to eat and drink new stuff, and maybe buy some clothes. And right there I was struck by the colors of the lanterns at a Vietnamese stand. After having walked some kilometres to check each and every stand around, I stopped and started drawing. I just saw some patterns in the tanglepatterns mailing list, and started to draw also a tree-of-life-like pendant and the lanterns. Den Long, F-Clawin, Cirque, Orciolo, Dark Busters, Yumemi, Harmoony. 9 June 2025 The lanterns decorating the stand. Arent they cute? Two of them made it to my messy place. One of the best souvenirs I ever bought. The first tea bags. Den Long. 10 June 2025 Here Den Long...

Tea Bag Envelopes - Part 10

Image
Another day, another tea bag post! Have I ever said Dark Busters is one of my favourite tangles? Probably I don't like it as much when it is so deformed, but you have to try things out to know it! Dark Busters. July 2025 I think the flowery tangle on the left is a variation of a less spiky flower that I wanted to try out. Or maybe it's Alla. Who knows? As for the orbs inside a peapod, I cannot remember if I drew it on my own or if I was copying anything, but it looks like a variation of... a pattern where both sides look like auras. I will slowly look for the name, it's a common one but I don't tangle it very often. Alla, Eclectric, Jelly Legs, Steps. July 2025 Saltz, Side-Winder Fluxfan, Efilys..   16 July 2025. In the upper part I wanted to do lotsadots with lines but it was too irregular, it ended up bad and simply added more lines and colored some of the spaces. Lotsadots. 16 July 2025 Steps, Antidots-8 variation, BB, Akwa. 16 July 2025. Training Den Long to add mor...

My First Home Sketchbook - Part 4

Image
So, let's go on with my sketchbook! I decided to post also images that are in other posts. Sometimes the quality was not the best in the past. I used the wrong filter I would say, and I am slowly learning to use Microsoft Lens better. The first drawing was interesting. I asked chatgpt about patterns that reminded an air balloon or a lantern, to see if something resembled my Den Long. And did a tangle with all those patterns... and maybe a couple more. Lantern-Pho, Cruffle, Orbs-La-Dee, Bublz, Luv-a, Icantoo, Roxi, Crescent Moon, Drip-Drop, Yum Yum, Bulb Lantern, Lantern. 9-10 June 2025 Here instead I did a ribbon version of Den Long. I also very much like the eyes up there, they are funny! Trelina, Den Long, Borbz, Cruffle, Flux. 11 June 2025 Then I went for a Trelina, but all the stuff around it resemble a bit too much some larvae. The poor Trelina got lost in this sea of creatures. Trelina. 11 June 2025 One of my many training pages... Tau, Akebia, Mysteria, Lotus Pods, Mel Mel, ...

Essessesse, born in thin spaces, raised to be a star

Image
This is a pattern born to fill some thin spaces, that then decided to become the star of the show. It is good for wide ribbons, solo, to draw real or imaginary borders and to fill larger spaces when you repeat it randomly around the page or tile. Here when the pattern first popped up, in between Den Long spaces. Together they make a nice ribbon. Den Long, Essessesse, Mooka. ~20 July 2025 Time for the deconstruction. Essessesse, Antidots, Queen's Crown. 21-26 June 2025 Essessesse, Printemps. ~22 July 2025 Essessesse, Queen's Crown. ~22 July 2025 Doesn't it look like a star here? Essessesse, Queen's Crown. ~ 26 July 2025 Here The pattern is not exactly like in the deconstruction, but I think I drew it before doing the deconstrution. Tea Bag Envelopes - Part 4

And another small set of tea bag envelopes. Den Long, Printemps. Den Long Zentilo, Grains, Printemps Aquafleur, Crescent Moon The closer patterns is probably Wirlz. Wirlz Wirlz I wonder if this is an official pattern or if I made it up, or if it was a variation from some video... But I like it a lot. Printemps, Flux. What about the fish and the other similar pattern? Ah, very much probably it is an existing one, but no clue. I will record patterns better. Struzzle, Wirlz, Lilypads And here again this fragment that I so much like! And I do not know the name... I just went through all grid patterns in Tanglepatterns, and I found it! About Chaos

Image
This is a kind of tutorial. Or not. Probably if you are into art you know it better, and myself  I never stumbled in a tutorial about chaos. Zentangle is very often about it. When you want to fill a space, and want to prevent that your patterns look like a grid, you have to follow chaos. Put down elements (dots, orbs, lines or small tangles) randomly in the space you want to fill and then work around every element a bit. And repeat. And repeat. In the end I did not fill all the space but I think that the objective of not ending up drawing everything like a grid was already obtained. Probably this would work also for stains of any kind, animal fur patterns, rocks, and everything. Chaos is everywhere. I still have to figure out if I like the repetition of patterns or the chaos in Zentangle. But probably what I like is bringing chaos in order, like working with deformed grids, and bringing order in chaos, like deconstructing any pattern that comes out of my pen that does not look like...
