Reference Catalog - Part 4

Image
I have quite some fun preparing this reference sketchbook. I wonder if it will be useful for other people. I often have the feeling that my efforts to share my passion for tangling and to engage others work less than I would like... but that's life! I will find the way and will try to enjoy the process, most of all. This page is probably not the most interesting, Hamadox is based on Hamail (and Paradox) and so everything gets a bit repetitive, and my Suan is a pattern that likes to hide in-between other patterns! Hamadox, Suan, Hamail, Ciottoli I love all patterns here, not used to see them together, but it is what I like of this catalog. Sometimes I mix patterns I would not mix together! Lilypad, Harp, Icanthis, Tipple Here a collection of patterns of mine! You can see my chop close to the pattern names! Ciottoli, MoinMoin, Dorn I like this page, how I put some pieces of 'Nzeppel here and there. 'Nzeppel, Bamboline, Castelli A page with organic tangles, and I am the bigges...

Reference Catalog - Part 3

I managed to tangle another five pages of the catalog, so here I am back again! If any of you want some patterns that are not super complicated to be added here, let me know! Since I plan to use this catalog when tangling with other people, and often many of them are not experienced tangler. I loved here the idea of drawing fescu on top of the bricks/thread Latela. Latela, Fescu, Toodles. Another thread pattern, thinking at one of the people that attended one of my tangling meetings. Here I like most the cross hatching behind bublz. LoopLopp, Hollibaugh, Bublz. I need some courage to leave so much space untangled. I am used to tangle every millimiter! Trelina, Shattuck, Nanalee. Here I love the sunlight leaves, how I put them together. Sampson, Rosalyn, Sunlight And here I was surprised how both Fluxfan and Side-Winder, two fillers in my eyes, both found a space in the page! Fluxfan, Side-Winder, Laflor My Patterns Latela Zentangle Original Patterns Fescu Hollibaugh Sampson Shattuck To...

Reference Catalog - Part 2

Image
Hi there!  I will try to upload the catalog here every 5 pages. I know, patterns are inno particular order, I will sort them alphabetically in an index when one sketchbook is done. I don't need all examples, it's enough to have the small bijou tiles with the names to do it, and this will happen faster. Especially if people here, in my Facebook group or anywhere tell me about patterns that they would like to be there. You will also find all posts about this catalog looking for the "reference" label. Reference Catalog - Part 1

Yesterday I had another meeting to tangle with other people here in Berlin. To have some material for reference for the people coming around (since usually everybody there is new or relative new to the Zentangle method) I started preparing a kind of catalog, starting with easy patterns and going on with the patterns I tangled over the day. Three bijou tiles on the left with monotangles and an example on the right. I did not put the step out, since the objective was to show how patterns look like, for others to check, then I am more than happy to show how to draw them. The step out would take space and I wanted to have a decent amount of patterns together in a small space. It did not work super well, but I had very few patterns in yesterday and I was updating the sketchbook with new bijou sized monotangles during the meeting. I have added some examples later. Do you think it could be useful for people new to Zentangle to decide what to draw? I would indeed like to have something more in...

Coree, Corflor, Corfo - one technique, three patterns

Image
Today it is the turn to post three patterns together. Cor comes from corinthian, like the Greek columns. I am not sure the technique in use with this patterns is indeed the one from these columns, but I liked to start all of them in a common way, and Cor is always a nice beginning. Like heart! Coree stands for cori-ntian, Corflor, for cor-flower, Cor-fo for cor-leaf (foglia is leaf in Italian). The same pattern is already part of several patterns, like Starfish-Flowerbarrel. Coree, Fescu, Tipple, Corflor, Negtip, Printemps, Bales, Corfo, Sez, Marasu, Pokeleaf, Shattuck. 20-21 September 2025 Here you can find both Coree and Corflor. Scena, Corflor, Printemps, Coree 8 December 2025 Lately I draw all the time Corfo . So I will not post here all the times I tangled it. :) But I just linked the pattern label, so you can click it and see it all over my blog. Borgoid, Tipple, Agru, Printemps, Corfo, Cezta. 26 December 2025 Vortemps, Corfo. 26 December 2025 Mrth, Corfo, Toodles, Tipple. 6 Janu...

Angefi - a squared flower

Image
I am drawing lately and leaving this blog alone. So bad from my side. I probably have material for 20 posts or so, and every day, of course, there is something new. I will probably have to go back to the habit to post twice a day, but probably after the CZT seminar, prior that I would rather draw more than post twice a day! :) Here we have another pattern. A pretty easy one, but that can be filled with anything, and that is what makes it nice. The name... probably comes from angle and... I do not remember! Let me go and check. Fi stands for flower, the other name I was considering was Hanakoku (in Japanese one of the meanings of hana is flower and one of koku must be angle, but I am not 100% sure). I like to draw it with an even number of polygons, and apart from the first two or three, I don't mind if a polygon has more sides of the previous ones, the only good thing is that it is not an aura of the previous one. But you do you, and you can aura one polygon as well! You can see it...

Flird - when you use birds as petals

Image
I still have tea bag envelopes, but I stored them away and my new pattern sketchbook was closer, so... let's restart with new patterns. I have eight in this book, and several to add, as usual. I am too fast to create new patterns, it is hard to keep up with it! Today there is Flird. Another flower. It looks like many  others, but different I think. In case you know this pattern is already out, let me know, I do not want to appropriate any, but on the other side how can you know all existing patterns if there is no place where all are collected and archived so that you can easily find if one is already there? One thing that I find funny is that the petal shape looks a bit like a bird. Like Zaungast, that I love! And we will have soon another pattern of mine with the same shape. And the name merges flower and bird. Flird, Sampson, Tipple, Pokeleaf, Printemps, Ahh. 14 December 2025  I did not draw it very often. I should! Flird, Tipple. 15 December 2025 My Patterns Flird Zentangl...

Bookmarks around the year change

Image
I like to give away bookmarks. I like to draw them while people around me are talking. I am used to stay on my own at parties and meetings, if I draw I can participate any time if a conversation is interesting, but if no conversation catches my ear I must not fake any interest! :D I am used to zone out anyway. I give massages, I dance while nobody does, and things of the kind. So here are the last bookmarks (and a special guest). I have given them to friends and mom. Do you have a favourite one? Borgoid, Tipple, Agru, Printemps, Corfo, Cezta. 26 December 2025 Vortemps, Corfo. 26 December 2025 Uaso, Manair, Printemps, Surround Flowr. 6 January 2026 Mrth, Corfo, Toodles, Tipple. 6 January 2026 Deepsake, Flux, Printemps, Negtip. 6 January 2026 Den Long, Printemps, Tipple, Negtip. 7 January 2026 I am wondering if I should make a pattern out of this flowery tangle, and think that I probably should. Tea Bag Envelopes - Part 40

And here we are, with the tea bag envelopes from 2026. Seven months of tangling. :)  I like to tangle this bird pattern. :) Uaso, Marasu, Wadical. 12 January 2026 Uaso, Printemps, Sez. 12 January 2026 Printemps. 12 January 2026 Crescent Moon, Hosopli, Betweed, Pokeroot, Tipple, Flux, Trelina, Sampson. 12 January 2026 Cezta, Printemps, Corfo, Circus. 13 January 2026 Uaso, Silk Pods, Mrth, Doodah, Crescent Moon, Tritri. 13 January 2026 Here there is an S ribbon that recalls many of the one I have already created. I wonder if I should add this one as well. I will see if I feel like tangling it. Tea Bag Envelopes - Part 39

Image
And here are the last tea bag envelopes from last year. The next time I will post some they are going to be from this year. Dicso, Fronde, Printemps, Negtip, Tipple. 17 December 2025 Vortemps, Printemps, Tipple, Flux. 17 December 2025 I like these weird patterns that remind some animals but are also different. This one looks a lot like Keena, and follows the same logic. Kikiriki. 17 December 2025 Borgoid, Fronde, Manair. 17 December 2025 Here I was using again the branch technique. I should probably do a step out for the theory behind it... or simply explain it with a pattern or two based on it. Printemps, Ciottoli, Corfo. 19 December 2025 Dark Busters, Yumemi, Corfo, Fescu, Ole-Ole. 19 December 2025 Frondula, Fronde. 19 December 2025 This is actually an unfinished tangle, but I put it away like this without touching it, and it looks nice also like this. I have the tendency to overfill everything, and to have some empty space can be nice from time to time. Manair, Printemps, Corfo, Fes...
