Project Pack 3 - Ribbons

Project Pack 3 was all about ribbons. The idea of taping together three pencils to draw lines with a gap to use as ribbon is nice. Also how they made ribbons out of free form patterns like Rock 'n Roll Diva Dance and Toodles. But then they abandoned the viewer a bit, they showed only how some of the patterns are drawn. I had a lot more sections and was looking here and there for more ribbons, tried to copy the ones from the final result. Many must be fragments, I won't list them.

I tried to use watercolor pencils but the cardboard I used is not the best place to do it. It is pretty water repellent, which means that the fine liner ink was not absorbed and got partially dissolved when I added water. I passed again with pen the section and... owned the mistake. 

The original was done on 9 Apprentice tiles taped toegether, while I took a 30x30 cardboard paper, which I appened to buy one or two days before knowing what the project was about.

Ribbon after ribbon I also ended up making one of my own, but I have already introduced it here! It's Xrose.

I always find something negative in project packs, but they also make me investigate more, which is nice. Is this the goal of a project pack, giving you only some of the information to encourage yourself to find your way to learn about a topic? Or to finish a project?

I also usually want to finish a page (or a set of 6 tiles), to tangle more times new patterns, and so on. Possibly it is a mix of their leaving some space and my attitude of filling all that blank space.

I usually draw flowers, stars, petals, sometimes curly ribbons. And then while training for Ambacco another of my favourite patterns came out. Borgoid. About Shading

I have been struggling with shading. At the beginning of my tangle adventure, I simply skipped shading. Then I started doing it every now and then, when I felt inspired. Now I am following the Zentangle Primer 1 and I feel like I must do it. And then I reached chapter 4. Shading. My hope was that all secrets about shading would have been unveiled, but I felt like they weren't. Since I did not want to go to Chapter 5 without being a bit better at shading, and still had two tiles to fill a page of 6, I was checking the web. And Barbara Langston came up, with this video I indeed recommend it if you want to learn something about different ways of shading. Uaso - spreading wings and tails all around

I arrived just some hours ago at my CZT seminar in Munich, but I will talk about it in more detail in another post (or more) after digesting everything. So many people around, so many languages (one of my passions, as some of you could already know)... and a long long way to the hotel. Here you can find one of my go-to patterns when I have to fill space. Lately, at least. I came up with it at a dinner with friends, I surely told a bit about it with my last bookmark post.
