New Patterns on Demand - Do You See Sand and a Seashore in Chot, Sibabol and Domi?

Yesterday somebody asked in a Facebook group for some patterns that reminded sand. Everybody there thought about elements that can be on the beach, but I asked and the real intention was sand.

Since I like strange challenges and do not know any real sand pattern, I checked if I had any idea. Right before this I ended up with some more new patterns, I will add their full version with examples some time. The list is long, I need time to tangle and more time to post here.

Too much, I tangle too much.
But I decided to have a post, since I posted there the patterns, and I like to document that it's me who tangled it. Probably nobody else on Earth uses the chop 練祭, since it has no meaning. But still. I like to document that it's me.

This is the first tangle I came upa with, on one of my beloved tea bag envelopes.
I recently started to write the name of my new patterns together with the tangle, and I like it! I must practice the thing I am learning with hand lettering.

Domi, Chot, Sibabol. 27 February 2026

Here I deconstructed Chot. This is a variation of Ciottoli or Tipple (if you like it less spikey).
There are several ways to darken it, in order to make it look darker, as if the sand is more wet.
You can add small (or big) black pebbles. You can draw smaller. You can add before or after some extra texture in the area, like small lines or dots, hatching, cross hatching, curves, other layers of bigger chot and then you draw on top smaller chot... and of course you can overlap the pebbles to make everything darker. And I was almost forgetting that you can use a thicker pen! :D

Sibabol represents loosely these spongey bubbles that you see on the shore sometimes. I like to keep some areas where everything overlaps and a few bubbles empty or almost empty. In the busy areas you can also draw more layers of overlapping bubbles.

Domi is nothing special, but I like the idea of partial auras, only on part of the perimeter. I can work on the idea with different forms and auras of different size to give different effects.
After writing this words I was inspired to tangle some examples in this page, but you will have to wait to see everything. :D

I think my first tangle looked better than this one. Because I cannot use colors? Because I tangled it when I was too tired? Because I was not inspired? Because I could not take advantage of the luck of the newbie since the patterns were not new to me any more? Because I should have used strings? Because I should have swapped Sibabol and Chot? Because the blue pen and blue pencil did not come out so well on this tile, since it is a bit darker than the original tan tiles?
It looks like I did everything in a suboptimal way. There are no mistakes in Zentangle, only opportunities!
Opportunity 1. Maybe sometimes I will tangle over this tile if I feel like (I could try first the effect with a translucent tile). I remember a course from somebody where you had to bring a tile you were not happy with to tangle over it!
Opportunity 2. I can retangle the same patterns while taking into account one or more of the issues listed above and see what comes out. And if it doesn't come out as I want, it looks like another opportunity.
Opportunity 3. Some tiles that we dislike could be liked a lot by others. I should always remember to ask a bit around before drawing on it! :D

March 1st, 2026
I have tried again to tangle a tile since I was not happy with the results. I think this one came out better. Actually, it is the back of the same tile. :D
Domi, Sibabol, Chot, Arik, Ciottoli. 1 March 2026

My bothering all over about sand and waves also inspired Daisy Malinois to draw some fantasy composition featuring them.

I sincerely thank her for letting me post her art piece, I think it is great to cross share art, when we all mention each other! It can only be beneficial.

A suggestion to all... don't be too shy, share, cooperate! It is the best way to learn, to grow, to feel fullfilled.

Kikiriki - do you hear the rooster?

Here we are again with a pattern. I wanted to do something similar to Keena, my snail, and who came out? A rooster! I wanted to keep K at the beginning, and I still have another pattern that will come sometime soon on this new pattern series of adding elements more or less randomly around a central element, and that will start as well with a K. Do you want to create your K pattern as well?
Kikiriki is originally formed by a Printemps, a Fescu, a Mel Mel variation, some Flux and a bar of some sort. But you can modify everything! If you draw it let me know where, I would be pleased to see that!

Tea Bag Envelopes - Part 46

Back with some more tea bag envelopes.

Here a lot of empty space, I do not leave it often.

Frondula - yes, I know, another flower

Here I am with a Fronde variation. Fun fact, while drawing Frondula I met another variation of Fronde, Firandola. The poor Firandola is not yet in my pattern book, I have changed a bit my schedule before the CZT seminar and I did not take care of my patterns as I should have had. Frondula looks like a bit like a flower, so Frondula from campanula, even if those flowers are a bit different!

I often have flowers blooming in my tea bag envelopes and my sketchbooks. I do my best to come up with other patterns as well! Let me know which of my patterns you like more! You can see all of them by checking the label Marziottangle.

Here Frondula came to life, while drawing Fronde.

Hmm... I did not tangle this pattern that often, I should do that! It's a nice one. Later I want to practice a bit with Flutemps and Daiamo, that have still uncompleted pages in my pattern book... and probably you do not know yet Flutemps! Unless you have seen it in my brain storming pages.

Tea Bag Envelopes - Part 45

I've been away for some days. I have been doing other stuff as well, yes, but I also lost quite some time on a new pattern and several variations. You call them tanglations, right? I think there are more tanglation to add, since the pattern can substitute Cadent, but with a twist, so many patterns based on cadent can be modified with that substitution. A long story. I will post it soon, but we will see. For the moment there's five pages, but I could come up with some more tangleations in the meanwhile.

I have also tried to get the basics of hand lettering, and I think I got to a good point. I do not think it is useful to post the pages and pages of letters I drew, but hopefully I should start somewhere soon to use such calligraphy here and there.

Back to the tea bag envelopes. I have probably material for at least another 10 posts. Probably more.

Here I have been playing with a round pattern with a big seed in the middle. It looks nice but possibly not worth a pattern for the moment. Maybe I will review it at a later time and work on it. Who knows!

Printemps, Tipple, Corfo, Crescent Moon. 23 January 2026

Here I was playing on this Turtra based pattern. Anything worth a pattern? Tonight I say no. I will probably have to review this post, today I think no experiment is worth becoming a new pattern.

Printemps, Tipple. 23 January 2026

I somehow like making stripes of patterns.

Here I tried it more extensively! The flower looks a bit like the flower I use more often in Srose. I am marking this as Srose, even if there are no branches.
Flux, Corfo, Agru, Printemps, Srose. 23 January 2026

The day before of this I had a tangling meeting, and one of the people around was very interested in thread patterns, so I tried a new one here. And... Can you see fish? Or is it me?

My First Home Sketchbook - Part 26

Again with my dear old sketchbook! Here we have some pages full with patterns. I have this tendency of filling every empty space, this is why i use so much fillers.

I did not write down the name of the angel pattern, let me know if you recall it!
EDIT from March 2nd. I found it in Pinterest, it's Hermine!

Tea Bag Envelopes - Part 44

Guess who has some more tea bag envelopes... :)

Srose, Corfo, Fescu. 20 January 2026

I would consider the flower on the right a variation of Cippociappo. I wonder if the one in the middle should get its name... :D Guess, I will make up a name for it as usual. The flower on the left is too simple, not worth a pattern if there is not one already!
Printemps, Daiamo, Sciusciu, CippoCiappo. 20 January 2026

ZagZig, Manair, Flux. 20 January 2026

This tangle is all variations. I like this small aggregates that came out putting printemps and flux together. The black leaves look like a mix between flux and fescu. and the flowers are a variation of the flower I use more often with srose.
Flutemps, Fescu, Srose. 21 January 2026

More new patterns... I have to restart to add patterns in my pattern sketchbook, but I have not enough time! I have not tangled one since I became CZT. :D But I am doing the reference catalog now... Probably I will finish at least the bijou tile there first.

My First Home Sketchbook - Part 25

Quite some time I don't post from my original sketchbook! I added a label for home sketchbooks like this one, simply HomeSketchbook. I will probably add a Part 1a and 1b, after some time it disturbs to me that I have to look around for the pics. It is ok they are somewhere (the most of them) but I want them also in the place they have to be! :)

This is a bit of a training page, but it's ok!

Zaz Leaf, Blooming Kangular, Bublz, Tucson, Belkesi, X, Bracket Feather, Pingu. November 2025

Last page drawn in Berlin in 2025. This is a technique of mine, I call it Branch (or cluster, they are close cousins). Maybe I will make a post for it. I found a name for this specific pattern showing the technique because it is easier, but... it is not in my book yet. I would need to tangle 48 hours a day to follow all my ideas.
Chanbr, Printemps, Tipple. 17 December 2025

One of my tangles on holiday in Italy. The pattern filled as a border on the top... should it be Butterfly? I do not think so. I remember I was trying to draw something and it did not come as I wanted and so I made it fade in a sea of corfos and Tipple and filled it somehow.

Tea Bag Envelopes - Part 43

Back with my dear tea bag envelopes!

Going on with lots of leaves. I always go through phases, when I want to experiment with some forms.

Corflor, Corfo, Flux, Mrth, Printemps, Tipple. 16 January 2026

Here I was playing again with my Kunopia.

Here I experimented with a new form. New pattern?
Corfo, Ravel, Daki, Corfo, Flux. 16 January 2026

Srose, an old friend of mine. Corfo fits with it so well. I could also tangle using only my tangles... and printemps and orbs. Leave me them! :D
Corfo, Srose, Tipple, Printemps. 16 January 2026

Here I played with deformed and stretched Molygons with different fillings, inspired by Project Pack 28.
Molygon, Sez. 19 January 2026

And still checking curvy molygons. I forgot the name of the filler on the right, will find it out sometime!
Molygon, Sez, Toodles. 19 January 2026

More leafs! I kind of like the top left corner. Probably this is something like some lotus and looks like a bailarine or a spiky corfo. Let's go with bailarine.
Bailarine, Flux. 19 January 2026

And also Phicops is inspired by the Project Pack. Sooner or later I should post the tiles I did for it, in preparation for the czt seminar. I did not complete the project, maybe I will do it soon! But now I am all involved with my reference catalog project, which is pretty big.

Uaso - The final stepouts

Tea bag envelopes will have to wait, I want to post this now that it's fresh in my mind.

I am singing in my mind the final stepouts like the final countdown!

A fellow CZTs has asked me via message for some clarifications about drawing Uaso. I was at one of my live tangling meetings, and the other attendant and I were drawing different things, so I went on drawing it on a tan tile.

First I drew the bodies random.

Then I drew the wings on top. I tried to draw the point till it touches the border or another element
I first did it with birds close to borders, then close to other elements.
Then I drew the other wings. The closer to something else, the better to get a feeling for it. I turned my tile, it can be easier to turn the tile like I did.
Then the same with the tails. First I tangled the ones that started closer to borders or other elements.
I like when the top of the tail follows the curve of the body of the bird.
Then... It's a matter of conflict resolution. I think here it's better to draw first the tail on the left
Maybe it can go downwards so that there's place to develop a bit for both tails
Then you can draw something else in the place you have, or draw more bodies. Or draw wings downwards. Till they reach an element
But this comes automatic to me. It can also go by drawing in general shorter tails and wings
Here I tried to implement curly overlapping wings on the bottom like the CZT asking me was trying out.
Here I added my Ciottoli as textured background and another bird.
Back at home I added chalks. I like tortillions better with graphite and stomps with chalk. Do you have an opinion there? Here I used the tortillion.
Here I tried to blur more the pink with a stomp.
I very much like the image with the negative filter! :D
And I forgot the final version with the chop, date and hairspray to fix a bit more the color!
Let me know if you would like the post better when all pictures are bigger. This is for users of the web version, probably all pics in the mobile version have the same size.

It was fun! If anybody has questions about any deconstruction of my patterns please ask, it should be fun to create another simple tile with few patterns to show it!
